Anniversary weekend

The traditional Old Town Festival takes place on Saturday, complemented by exciting time islands and other activities. On Sunday, the focus is on historical and religious events – including a church service, procession and other special activities.

The weekend was deliberately chosen because September 13 is the anniversary of the death of Bishop Radolf, the founder of the city.

Further information on the program:

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Derschka

Around 1,200 years ago, Bishop Radolt of Verona had a church built on Reichenau land, which is rightly regarded as the starting point of Radolfzell’s town history. This raises questions: What motivated a bishop from northern Italy to act in this way outside his diocese? Moreover, there is no founding document that could vouch for this process. We read about it in a literary text of uncertain credibility. Are there nevertheless indications that allow us to outline the foundation in terms of facts and time? The lecture shows what can be reliably reported about Radolt and his work on Lake Constance.

Arriving in Radolfzell?

Today, people from over 110 countries of origin live in Radolfzell. While some feel very connected to the city, others still experience invisibility, a lack of opportunities to help shape the city or even exclusion.

Am I from Radolfzell or Radolfzell? Am I German?
Am I Turkish? Am I both? Am I neither?

Belonging and identification are not only a question of citizenship and political participation opportunities, but also part of a cultural identification process that requires mutual respect and recognition.

The multi-part research and encounter project explores the question of how people with a history of migration and their descendants identify with the city of Radolfzell today. In four consecutive modules – storytelling project, city walk, dialog round and creative workshop – participants from different backgrounds and age groups come together to develop personal perspectives and common views. By combining different methods, the aim is to create a dialog between the generations, make cultural and social participation more visible and ideally provide impetus for various institutions.

The project is looking for people with a history of migration in Radolfzell (1st to 3rd generation) and from different backgrounds, school pupils and young people, senior citizens and people without a history of migration – as listeners and contributors. Social and cultural institutions in particular can act as venues for the dialog round and the creative workshop. A joint closing event is planned for November 2026.

Anyone interested in sharing their migration story can send an email to handan.aksuenger-kizil@univie.ac.at.

Radolfzell on the move

“Radolfzell in motion” transforms the market square into a lively sports arena where various stations are set up in the open air. Each station offers a different sporting challenge and is supervised by local clubs, which can thus present themselves to a wide audience. The clubs will also provide on-site catering. The marketplace becomes a meeting place where visitors can linger, watch and, above all, get active themselves – whether in friendly competition or trying out new disciplines. The requirements are deliberately designed so that all age groups and people with disabilities can participate equally and experience the fun of movement and community together.

DämmerShoppen – the Radolfzell city center becomes a catwalk!

The town is celebrating a big anniversary and so is the action group! To mark the 50th anniversary of the action group, Radolfzell’s town center will be showing its brightest side: at DämmerShoppen on 8 May 2026, the town center, the Zeller Zentrum, will be transformed into a large, open catwalk from 6 pm – lively, creative and full of surprises. Until late in the evening, the stores invite you to take a relaxed stroll – with special promotions, offers and small highlights for late shoppers. Whether it’s a glass of wine or a fine snack in between – the restaurants provide culinary delights during the shopping breaks and invite you to take a deep breath. An evening that shows how much life, style and community there is in our city!

Anno 1926 “Radolfzell celebrates 1100 years”

In an exhibition, the Förderverein Museum und Stadtgeschichte Radolfzell e. V. presents 40 impressive impressions of the anniversary celebrations that took place in Radolfzell exactly 100 years ago. The historical glass plate photographs from the Moriell family’s picture archive provide a fascinating insight into the festivities and atmosphere of the town at that time. Thanks to targeted funding, the original glass plates have been restored and reproduced. The prints, which were then printed in large format, will be made available to the public in a free exhibition in the town library.

Object karaoke – The thing from the depot

Object karaoke with exhibits from the Radolfzell City Museum.
Moderation: Johannes Elster

In the museum, we marvel at exhibits that bear witness to times long past, foreign cultures, artistic genius or simply good curation. We are normally denied a look behind the scenes, into the storerooms and into the depot of the Radolfzell City Museum. At Object Karaoke, improv artists present objects from the Radolfzell City Museum that they are seeing on stage for the first time. They are given a new object every 90 seconds for six minutes and have to present it to the audience as originally as possible. After each presentation, the museum explains the real history of the object to the audience.

It is up to the audience to decide by the volume of applause who makes it to the final and wins the first object karaoke in Radolfzell.

Admission: 6€ Reduced: 3€

Dead or Alive Poetry Slam

We make the stage of the city library shake – with a literary competition in a class of its own, the Dead or Alive Poetry Slam. This special form of verbal duel is quite rightly called the supreme discipline of the poetry slam. Actors and actresses slip into the roles of deceased writers and try to compete with the best poetry slammers in the German-speaking world. Do the works of the great writers from the afterlife, such as Joseph Victor von Scheffel, still stand a chance against some of the strongest texts of contemporary stage poetry? Or will they be immediately sent back to the grave by the public’s vote? In the end, the audience will decide who will come out on top in this duel.
